Where do we start? What is the process?

We’re so glad you’re here.

At Promised Love, everything begins with your application. This allows us to understand your home, lifestyle, and what you’re looking for in a puppy. Our goal is not simply to place puppies—it’s to create thoughtful, lasting matches.

Each application is carefully reviewed, and we take the time to get to know our families. The safety, well-being, and future of every puppy we raise will always come first.

We do not collect deposits prior to pregnancy confirmation.

Once a pregnancy is confirmed, approved families will be contacted and invited to move forward with a $500 non-refundable deposit to reserve their place for that specific litter.

This approach allows families to move forward with clarity and confidence, without committing financially before a litter is confirmed. Because of this, availability can be limited and timing may vary.

The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to your puppy’s go-home date.

If a current litter is not the right fit, you are always welcome to remain in consideration for future pairings.

I want to choose the best puppy. How does that work?

Wanting the “perfect” puppy is completely natural.

Each puppy is unique, and what matters most is finding the right fit for your home and lifestyle.

We do not use a traditional pick order.

Instead, puppies are matched based on temperament, confidence, energy level, and personality—combined with the information you provide about your home and goals.

Because we spend every day with our puppies during their most important developmental stages, we are able to see who they truly are—not just who they are in a short visit.

This allows us to create thoughtful matches that support long-term success for both you and your puppy.

You select my puppy for me… how does that work?

Our placement process is built on daily observation, structured development, and continued education.

We utilize a blend of Puppy Culture and Avidog, along with ongoing education through professional training programs, guiding puppies through appropriate exposure, handling, and confidence-building from the very beginning.

Through this hands-on approach, we are able to evaluate each puppy’s temperament, engagement, and adaptability as they develop.

We also incorporate structured temperament evaluations around the 7-week mark, including elements of the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test, to further support what we observe daily.

These evaluations provide additional insight, but are always considered alongside real-life behavior, development, and personality over time.

By the time placements are made, we have a clear understanding of each puppy’s individual personality.

Selections are finalized just before the 8-week mark to ensure each puppy is placed where they will truly thrive.

What we ask of our families

To give your puppy the best possible start, we ask that you:

  • Continue with a consistent routine

  • Prioritize crate training and sleep structure

  • Follow recommended nutrition guidelines

  • Avoid high-risk environments until vaccinations are complete

  • Stay in touch—we are always here as a resource

Our lifelong commitment

When you bring home a Promised Love puppy, you are never on your own.

If at any point in your dog’s life circumstances change, we require that they are returned to us. This ensures that every dog we bring into the world is always protected, advocated for, and never without a safe place.

We can’t wait to meet our puppy. Can we visit?

We completely understand the excitement—this is a meaningful and emotional experience.

At this time, we do not offer in-home visits.

This decision is intentional and allows us to protect the environment we’ve carefully created for our dogs and puppies, while maintaining a calm, consistent routine during critical developmental stages.

Our dogs and puppies are raised in our home—not in kennels—and our daily environment is structured around their care, training, and well-being.

To ensure you feel fully connected, we provide frequent:

  • photos

  • videos

  • updates

  • and real-life glimpses into our home

We understand this may be different from other programs, which is why we prioritize open communication so you feel confident every step of the way. Our goal is for you to know your puppy well long before they ever come home.

Will bringing home another puppy change the relationship I have with my current dog?

One of the most common questions families ask is whether bringing home another puppy will change the relationship they currently have with their dog. The honest answer is yes — but when done thoughtfully, it can often expand that relationship in very beautiful ways rather than replace it.

For many families, the biggest concern is not simply adding another dog, but protecting the bond they already have with the dog currently in their home. That is something I completely understand and respect.

Every dog is different. Some adult dogs immediately welcome a puppy into the home, while others need a slower adjustment period. Personality, confidence, age, energy level, and household structure all play an important role in how smoothly the transition goes.

One of the most important things families can do during this transition is continue making their current dog feel secure, included, and valued. Adult dogs still need quiet time, individual attention, and healthy boundaries from puppy energy. A new puppy should feel like an addition to the family — not a replacement for the relationship already built.

I encourage families to:
• Continue one-on-one time with their current dog
• Maintain normal routines as much as possible
• Allow the relationship to develop naturally without pressure
• Provide separate rest and crate spaces when needed
• Supervise interactions rather than expecting constant togetherness

In many homes, a well-balanced adult dog can become an incredible teacher for a puppy. Puppies often learn confidence, social skills, routines, and appropriate play behavior from older dogs in ways we cannot fully replicate ourselves.

For some families, especially those with older dogs or very established routines, additional puppy development time before going home can also help create a calmer and more structured transition. Extended development programs can allow puppies additional time working on crate conditioning, routines, confidence building, and foundational manners before entering the home environment.

Most importantly, there is no “perfect” timeline that fits every family. Sometimes the timing feels very clear, and sometimes waiting another season is the better choice. Both are completely okay. The goal is always long-term success for both the puppy and the family already loving a dog at home.

Why don’t you typically place sibling puppies together?

Occasionally families ask about bringing home two puppies from the same litter together. While sibling puppies can absolutely be loving companions, raising littermates successfully requires a very intentional level of time, structure, training, and individual development that many families understandably underestimate.

When puppies are raised together, they can sometimes become overly dependent on one another rather than building individual confidence and strong human relationships. In some cases, one puppy may become more dominant while the other becomes quieter, more anxious, or less independent. Training can also become more challenging because attention and focus are often directed toward each other instead of the handler.

This does not mean sibling pairs can never be successful. In experienced homes that are committed to separate training, individual outings, separate crate time, and intentional one-on-one development, littermates can absolutely thrive together.

However, for most families, I feel that bringing home one puppy at a time creates a healthier long-term relationship, allows for stronger individual bonding, and results in a smoother overall transition for both the family and the puppy.

My goal is never simply to place puppies quickly, but to help set both puppies and families up for the best long-term success possible.

Our home & environment

Our dogs are part of our home and our daily life.

We have a dedicated dog room designed for safe play, structured development, and training, along with exposure to normal household environments that help prepare puppies for real life.

We prioritize a clean and safe space, while also allowing puppies the freedom to learn, explore, and grow.

Our goal is to raise confident, well-adjusted dogs who transition smoothly into their new homes.
